Celebrate Girl Scout Jummah with USA Girl Scouts Overseas
About this Event
Join USA Girl Scouts Overseas to celebrate Girl Scout Jummah! In Arabic, Friday is called Yawm al-Jum’ah, meaning the Day of Assembly. Muslims gather for congregational worship during the Friday midday prayer. Jum’ah is not a “sabbath” on which no work is done; rather, Muslims take just enough time off from work or school to attend a service at a neighborhood masjid.
During our hour together, girls will learn about the khutbah, a Muslim two-part sermon traditionally delivered on Fridays. The program will allow for a time of personal prayer, or du’a.
This will be a wonderful opportunity for everyone to reflect on our own personal beliefs and how they’re echoed in the Girl Scout Law, as well as learn something new about someone else’s faith.
