About this Event
Our name, Salaam, means “peace.” We are a non-religious, non-partisan organization that creates mutual understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims.
We invite you to attend our first virtual event to meet and learn about your Muslim neighbors on Thursday, January 14 at 7 pm.
Many Americans don’t know even the most basic facts about Islam. The overwhelming majority of the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims share the same values that are common to humanity everywhere – and long for a peaceful and prosperous life for their families. Our community events will introduce non-Muslims to the facts about Muslims and the Islamic faith itself.
Since people fear what they don’t know, we are creating a series of virtual events meant to help people better understand Islam’s peaceful mainstream – rather than the extremism that dominates the headlines. We’re out to create a world without fear of Islam. To do that, we need to bring people together.
We are working together with The Reverend Joe Dirbas to bring Muslims and non-Muslims together. The Reverend Joe Dirbas is the Rector of All Souls’ Episcopal Church and the Ecumenical and Interfaith Officer for the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego.
“I would encourage all those interested in learning more to attend this session. Come with an open heart and an open mind and together we will learn to love and respect each other.” – The Reverend Joe Dirbas
Salaam hosts virtual events through Zoom that features Muslim speakers for a 60 – 90 minute interactive session covering:
The life of Mohammed and the history of Islam
The basic practices of present-day Muslims
The rights and role of women in Islam
Answering the tough questions about jihad and sharia law
Plenty of time for Q&A
Salaam’s previous in-person events were filled with engaging conversations that allowed people to learn about each other, to discover a more informed awareness of Islam, and to develop meaningful connections through our common humanity.
